In a prelude to tonight’s concert renowned Irish chef, author, TV presenter and co-founder of the Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland will talk about Irish fish, the culinary culture it supports and the role and importance of Irish waters. Rory will also give a small presentation on cooking with Irish fish at the start of an evening that will also embrace the fish metaphor in a wonderful musical setting.

Internationally renowned Irish pianist Barry Douglas joins forces with the exceptional Ensemble Caméléon to perform Schubert’s Trout Quintet. Barry has established a major international career since winning the Gold Medal at the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, Moscow. Ensemble Caméléon is a unique group of principal string players with the leading Dutch symphony orchestras. What better way to celebrate the Irish St. Patrick’s national holiday than on the day itself – March 17th - with this unique Irish-Dutch musical collaboration.

Shapeshifters is a fun, learning workshop for all ages, from 6 years +, where participants can discover in a step-by-step demonstration how to use simple shapes to create complex characters and learn about making animation movies. Participants will be guided by the talented visual concept artist Rory Conway, from the Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon, who will share the secrets of how to create characters from the Academy Award® nominated movies Song of the Sea. A ticket to this workshop guarantees a seat at the screening of the Song of the Sea at 16:30.

 Song of the Sea is an animation film that tells the story of Ben and his little sister Saoirse – who embark on a fantastic journey back to their home by the Sea, across a fading world of ancient Irish legends and magic, a world that needs Saoirse to find her voice and sing the ‘Song of the Sea’ to save all of fairy kind from being lost forever. Directed by Tomm Moore, the film features the voices of Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, David Rawle, Lisa Hannigan, Pat Shortt and Jon Kenny. Music is by composer Bruno Coulais and Irish band Kíla.

 Rónán Ó Snodaigh, a founding member of Kíla, Ireland’s most celebrated world music band, is a master bodhrán (Irish drum) player and singer/songwriter. He has been described as “the living embodiment of Turlough O’Carolan and Bob Marley” (Hot Press) and for one night only in Amsterdam he’ll be joined by master musicians from different genres to fuse his bluesy grooves, folk guitar and wild percussion playing with improvising genius Ernst Reijseger on cello, jazz violinist Jeffrey Bruinsma and ney (reed-flute) player Sinan Arat.
